SICILY, Himera, (430-420 B.C.), Copper tetras, (8.86 g), obv. facing Gorgoneia or Gorgon head, rev. three pellets, (S.1107, Calciatti I, 18 [p.31], SNG ANS 181, SNG Cop. 315-6, HGC 2, 467). Brown patina, nearly extremely fine and rare.

Ex CNG eSale 173, September 26, 2007 (lot 308) coming from the Alain Lagrange Collection.
Kraay (The Bronze Coinage of Himera and "Himera" in Annali dell'Istituto Italiano di Numismatica Supp. to volume 25, Naples 1979), discusses the chronology of this series in conjunction with the similar coinage of Panormus and he places the issue in the last decade of the 5th century.
