EUBOIA, Chalkis, (c.180-146 B.C.), silver oktobol, Aristeides magistrate (5.35 g), obv. head of Chalkis (Hera) to right, hair rolled, rev. eagle standing right with open wings fighting a serpent grasped in his talons, to right magistrate's nane **ARISTEIDHS*, to left traces of **CALKI*, (cf.S.2487, Picard emission 61 [obv. 1, rev. A] No.1 [This Coin], Lanz Sale 111 [BCD] illustrated This Coin, lot 240). Good very fine, toned, and very rare, with a extensive pedigree.

Ex BCD Collection, from Lanz Auction of the BCD Collection, November 25, 2002 (lot 240); previously from the Jacob Hirsch 1909, Sale XXV, Philipsen Collection, No.930, also from J Schulman Auction 239, 5 April 1955 (lot 1310); Ex Fred Knobloch FPL, April 1968, No.828; BCD acquired it from Alex G. Malloy in New York. Lot includes BCD, Malloy tickets and BCD photos. An extraordinary coin with over a century of pedigrees.
