TRAJAN, (A.D. 98-117), silver denarius, issued 108, Rome mint, (3.43 g), obv. laureate head with slight drapery on shoulder to right of Trajan, around IMP TRAIANO AVG GER DAC P M TR P, rev. Dacian captive seated left mourning on a pile of arms including two curved swords, two spears and an shield, in exergue DAC CAP, around COS V P P SPQR OPTIMO PRINC, (cf.S.3136, RIC 98, RSC 120, BMC 390). Bright, good very fine and scarce.

Comemmorates the successful victories over the king Decebalus of the Dacians in the wars in 101-2, 105-6 A.D. resulting in the annexing of area of Dacia, West of the Siret river.
