GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 238-9, (20.00 g), obv. laureate bust of Gordian III to right draped and cuirassed, around IMP CAES M ANT GORDIANVS AVG, rev. around FIDES MILITVM, S C across field, Fides standing left holding standard and transverse sceptre, (S.8706, RIC 254a, C.88, Hunter 74). Superb even brown patination, on large round flan, nearly extremely fine, very rare so nice, one of the finest known.
