Acting-Sergeant J. Woodhouse.
The death occurred at his residence, Franklin-street, Annerley, South Brisbane, on October 29, of Mr. Joseph Woodhouse, ex-Acting-Sergeant of the Queensland Police Force. The late Sergeant Woodhouse was born in Portadown, County Armagh, Ireland, 66 years ago, and came to Queensland 44 years ago, arriving at Mackay, where he joined his brother, Constable Robert Woodhouse. Joining the Police Force in 1888, he was stationed in Ipswich, and was later transferred to Mackay, as first-class constable. Deceased was later promoted to Acting Sergeant, and was transferred to North Bundaberg, where he was in charge of the station for seven years. He subsequently served in Cairns, and then returned to Brisbane, where he retired 23 years ago owing to ill-health. The late Acting-Sergeant Woodhouse was twice married, and he is survived by his widow and a family of five sons and two daughters. One son was killed in action in the Great War. His eldest son, Lieutenant Edward Woodhouse, is at present managing a plantation in New Guinea. The funeral took place to the Toowong Cemetery, Rev. C. H. Massey officiating at the graveside.
