CBE GROUP OF FOUR: The Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Commander (CBE type 2) breast badge; 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. First medal unnamed as issued, 19 Pte G.G.Sutcliffe. Aust:A.Post:C. on second medal, 19 ER-W.O2 G.G.Sutcliffe. Post Cps A.I.F. on third medal, 19 ER-WO.2 G.G.Sutcliffe A.P.O.C. A.I.F. on last medal. All named medals impressed. Display mounted, very fine - good very fine.

CBE: Supplement to LG 31/5/1956, p3140 - to George Gribbon Sutcliffe Esq, of Canberra, for distinguished public service.

This honour was conferred upon George Gribbon Sutcliffe by the Governor General, Sir William Slim, on 16 April 1957 at Government House, Canberra in recognition of his distinguished service as Commissioner of the Commonwealth Public Service Board.

George Gribbon Sutcliffe, civil servant, age 20, born at Coburg, Vic; Enl.03Aug1915 at Melbourne, Vic, in Aust Postal Corps; Emb.02Nov1915 and to MEF; to 3 Trg Bn, promoted to Cpl 08Mar1916 and then to Postal Corps 03Jul1916; to Sgt 01Nov1916; to France 18Jun1917; various postings and promotions including to ER/S/Sgt 06May1918; to ER/CSM 02Nov1918; RTA 02Jul1919; Disch.10Oct1919; post war he was an officer in the PMG's Dept to 1941; Assistant Secretary of the Department of Supply and Shipping 1941-1948, appointed a member of the Stevedoring Industry Commission in 1944, Secretary of Department of Shipping and Fuel in 1948, member of the Board of Commissioners in 1952 and re-appointed in 1957; also held various community roles including President of the Royal Canberra Golf Club 1951-54; Died on 10 December 1964 suddenly at Goulburn at the age of 69 and was interred at the Church of England portion of the Canberra Cemetery on 14 December 1964.
