Donald Lyle Wilkinson, dental mechanic, age 21, born at Ashfield, Sydney, NSW; Enl.24Jan1941 at Paddington, Sydney, NSW, in 17 Special Dental Unit, while currently serving N78977 Cpl in A.A.M.C. (II) E.C. (Discharged effective from 23Jan1941); Emb.02Feb1941; Disemb.18Feb1941 at Singapore and acting rank of Cpl confirmed; MIA 16Feb1942 at Malaya later confirmed as POW at Sandakan arriving 18Jul1942; Died of illness 08Aug1945 at Ranau No.2 Jungle Camp and buried at the Main Cemetery; commemorated at Panel 27 of the Labuan Memorial in Malaysia, Australian War Memorial Roll of Honour, Ballarat Australian Ex-Prisoners of War Memorial, and Wagga Wagga Sandakan Prisoner of War Memorial.
