SCOUTING, The Medal of Merit, in gilt (31mm), by Collins, London, reverse inscribed 'G.S.M/R.W.Moore./21.8.39'; also, Long Service Medal, in silver (28mm), with (3) Five Years service bars, reverse inscribed 'S.M./R.W.Moore/28th Aug 1923'. Good very fine. (2)

Together with a newspaper clipping from "The Star" dated 9 December 1939, detailing the presentation ceremony by the Governor-General (Viscount Galway), at the Wain's Hotel, Dunedin for the Medal of Merit.

Group Scoutmaster R.W.Moore joined the Scout movement in July, 1909, in a lone patrol which was ultimately formed into the Kelburn Troop, Wellington. After a distinguished career in the movement he moved to Dunedin in 1921 and took charge of the Ocean Beach Troop. He also held positions as district secretary, Scoutmaster, Rover leader, district Scouter and group Scoutmaster at St Clair.

The Medal of Merit is given for outstanding service of not less than 12 years and 10 years exceptionally. It implies keen, conscientious, imaginative and dedicated service over a sustained period.
