AUCKLAND COMPETITIONS SOCIETY N.Z., struck in silver (45mm), by Vaughton, Birm., Birmingham hallmark, ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Architectural/Drawing/A.J.Brown/1911'. Nearly extremely fine.

Alfred Brown, born Auckland in 1893, educated at Auckland Grammar School then articled to an architect 1908-12. Arriving in Sydney in 1913 he worked for Kent, Budden and Greenwell returning to Auckland at the outbreak of WWI where he enlisted in the New Zealand Expeditionary Force. Wounded in action in France during the war he was invalided to England where he remained until he returned to Sydney in 1930. In Sydney he served on many government planning boards and committees, was president of the Town Planning Association of NSW and became founding president of the Town and Country Planning Institute.
