A GROUP OF SIXTY NINE MEDALS AWARDED TO ONE CANTERBURY FAMILY, dating from 1898-1975 and relating to the English Leicester sheep breed: Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, Founded 1863, struck in silver (55mm), by G.Coates & Co, Christchurch, reverse inscribed 'Messrs R & J Reid/For/Champion English/Leicester Ram/Nov 1898' (cased) [illustrated]; another, reverse inscribed 'R.Reid/1937/R.E.Alexander/Cup'; similar, struck in gold (10g, 25mm), no maker (Coates?), ornate scroll top mount with ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'R & J Reid/Champion/English/Leicester Ram/1912' [illustrated]; another as last, in gold (10.0g), reverse inscribed 'R & J Reid/For/Champion English/Leicester Ram/Jubilee Show/1913' [illustrated]; Leicester Sheep Breeders Assn, Presented by the L.S.B.A., struck in silver (45mm), by W&H (Walker & Hall), hallmark for Birmingham 1900, reverse inscribed 'R & J Reid/Most Points/English Leicester/Section/1925'; another, but hallmark 1927, reverse inscribed 'Canterbury A & P Assn/1927/R & J Reid/Most Points In/English/Leicester Section'[illustrated]; another, (32mm), hallmark 1927, reverse inscribed 'Canterbury/A. & P.A./1929/Jas.Reid'[illustrated]; similar, struck in bronze (45mm), by W&H (Walker & Hall), reverse inscribed 'J.H.Reid & R.Reid Jnr/Shephers/1925' [illustrated]; another, reverse inscribed 'C.A.P.A./1932/Jas Reid'; another, reverse inscribed 'C.A.P.A./1933/Jas.Reid'; another, reverse inscribed 'C.A.P.A./1934/Jas.Reid'; another, reverse inscribed 'C.A.P.A./1935/Jas.Reid'; another, reverse inscribed 'C.A.P.A./1938/Jas.Reid', all cased; N.Z. (Giles Coates, Christchurch), ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Awarded To/R. and J.Reid/four tooth/Eng.Leic.Ram' [illustrated]; Royal Agricultural Society of New Zealand, Royal Champion, struck in gold (26) (9ct, total weight 362g, 30mm) by M & K Ld or M & T Ld (Mayer & Kean, Mayer & Toye, Wellington), all with ring top suspensions, all awarded to J.Reid or Robert Reid & Sons, mostly for English Leicester Ewe or English Leicester Ram, 1929-70 [the first illustrated]; others as previous but silver gilt, 1969-74 (7), others as previous but gilt, 1975 (2); another, as previous, but awarded at the Royal Show (1953-54) (special struck reverse), in gold (9ct, total weight 28.8g) (2), reverse inscribed 'English/Leicesters/Ram/Estate/J.Reid' on the first, 'English/Leicesters/Ewe/Estate/J.Reid' on the second [illustrated]; similar but 'Reserve Champion', in silver, reverse inscribed 'English/Leicester/Ram/Reid Robt &/Sons Ltd/1972' [illustrated]; as previous but larger size (35mm) (15) by M & K Ld or M & T Ld, without ring top supsender, awarded between 1931 and 1968 to J.Reid or Robert Reid & Sons for English Leicester Ram or English Leicester Ewe [1st illustrated]; also, The Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria, struck in silver (35mm), by S & M (Stokes & Martin, Melbourne), rim inscribed '3rd.Prize, English Leicester Ram Between 1-1/2 and 2-1/2 Years', reverse inscribed 'R. and J.Reid/1908' [illustrated]. Extremely fine - uncirculated, a very large and important group. (69)
