The following courtesy National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past - from the 'Otago Witness' 10 June 1908:

"The Canadian Salt Company (Ltd.) of Ontario, Canada, through its New Zealand agents (Messrs J.B.MacEwan and Co.), offered a gold medal, valued at ?15 15s, to be awarded to the exhibitor gaining the most points in the factory cheese classes, the medal to be the property of the winner for 12 months (or until the succeeding show), and to be won three times (not necessarily in succession) before becoming the property of the winner - Edendale Dairy Factory."

Founded in 1893, in Windsor, Ontario, with three employees of the Canadian Pacific Railway Company (C.P.R.) and was originally named The Windsor Salt Company. Within a few years, the operation was sold and became The Canadian Salt Company, Limited (French: La Societe Canadienne de Sel Limitee). The company has changed ownership at least twice (owned by Morton Salt since 1954), but it remained a leader in modern salt processing methods, and is currently considered Canada's largest salt manufacturer.
