(ROTHERHAM), memorial fob medal, 1919, hand engraved in gold (15ct, 6.2g, 28x24mm), no maker, ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Presented/To/Mrs G.Gillespie/In Memory/of/Her Son/Pvt.M.Piper'. Extremely fine.
8/1314 Pte Michael Piper, Otago Infantry Battalion, 2nd Reinforcements, embarked from New Zealand 12 December 1914, Killed in Action, France, 12 October 1917.
Michael Piper was the son of Alice Gillespie (formerly Piper), of Culverden, North Canterbury. He had been wounded previously at Gallipoli.
