COMMEMORATIVE DOLLAR COIN, (1967), production trial of the reverse design, uniface strike in white metal (possibly lead) (180mm), back with 'William Gardner' printed in black marker pen. Extremely fine and very rare.
Together with a letter of authentication from Mr H.C.Perkins of Predecimal.com Inc Rotographic Publications, London (BNTA) and dated 19th February 2011.
The letter states: 'This item was purchased by me from Andrew Gardner, the son of the late William Maving Gardner at his home in England on February 7th, 2011.
Mr W M Gardner designed the reverse of the 1967 NZ Dollar and this item was created during the design process of that coin. It is speculated (due to the fact that it has his name on the back) that it was either an entry into the design competition for that particular coin or that it was produced oversized at some stage during trial production in order to show off the design at a greater scale.
I confirm this item is genuine. This laminated letter of provenance has an image of the item on the reverse and should be kept with the item at all times.'
With research.
