Warwick Cary joined the NSW State Emergency Service in 1982. He was appointed Kogarah Local Controller in 2003 and he was also the inaugural NES State Protocol Officer being appointed in 2001. During his 37 years with the NES he was awarded the Centenary Medal (2001), the NSW NES Director General's Commendation for Service (2004), a NSW SES Director General's Unit Citation (2006), the Emergency Services Medal (2008), a NSW SES Commissioner's Certificate of Appreciation (2016), and a Life Member Award (2019). He was named the City of Kogarah's Citizen of the Year (2011) and presented with the Cook Community Medal in 2016. He was also a founding member of the NSW SES Volunteers Association and honoured with a Life Membership in 2007.
