FAMILY GROUP: (Brother 1) Single: British War Medal 1914-18. 91 Pte W.J.McDougall. 14 L.H.R. A.I.F.; (Brother 2) Pair: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 99 Cpl. H.R.McDougall. 11 M.G.Coy. A.I.F. All medals impressed. All ribbons damaged, otherwise very fine.
British War Medal 1914-18 is first brothers only medal entitlement.
(Brother 2): Recommended for Mention in Despatches 19Mar1917 (not awarded) - This man was No. 1 on a Gun taking part in raiding operations on the night of the 13th March, 1917. Almost as soon as the raid commenced his position was heavily shelled and his Gun put out of action. Private McDougall remedied the trouble and carried on throughout the whole operation; though his Gun was out of action by shell fire on several further occasions. He set a splendid example of coolness and courage.
Together with Nearest Female Relative's badge (AIF), by Stokes & Sons, Melb, reverse numbered 115247, with one bar numbered 100930 (one of the suspension rings holding the bar is broken and needs to be soldered to repair); Returned from Active Service badge (AIF) (WWI), reverse numbered 191757.

Brother 2: Herbert Radford McDougall, farm labourer, age 20, born at Bundaberg, Qld; Enl.05Feb1916 at Brisbane, Qld, in 11 Machine Gun Coy, with 18 months compulsory training in 5LHR (Qld); Emb.05Jun1916; to France 23Nov1916; to L/Cpl 30Mar1917; to hospital in England with VD 06Jul to 22Sep1917; to France 01Jan1918; rejoined unit 08Jan1918; to Cpl 24May1918; RTA 10May1919; Disch.16Aug1919.
