(Father) entitled to British War Medal 1914-18.
Together with WWI Returned from Active Service badge (AIF), reverse numbered 41663; Certificate of Discharge for Arthur Sydney Hedges dated 25 April 1918; Royal Australian Air Force Christmas card.
(Father) Arthur Sydney Hedges, bank clerk, age 22, born at Sydney, NSW; Enl.29Dec1915 at Sydney, NSW; Emb.11May1916; to Gunner 29Dec1915; to 7FAB 01Apr1916; to Driver 01Sep1916; to France 20Dec1916; WIA 25Jun1917 gassed by shell, France; attached to AA Pay Corps 29Oct1917; to A/Sgt 01Feb1918; RTA on special finance duty 01Feb1918; Disch.25Apr1918 Medically Unfit; married Una Mima Smith 23Apr1918.
On 10 February 1927 Mr A.S.Hedges, manager of the Tumbarumba branch of the Commercial Bank of Sydney, was found in the manager's room at the bank dead from a gunshot to the heart and was given a soldier's funeral. An inquest into his death resulted in the coroner's finding as follows, 'I find that the said Arthur Sydney Hedges, at the premises of the Commercial Banking Co of Sydney Limited, Bridge Street, Tumbarumba died from the effects of a revolver bullet wound in the heart inflicted by himself, but whether accidentally or otherwise the evidence does not enable me to say.'
