TRIO: Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45. First medal unnamed, 43294 Thorton (sic should be Thornton) J.P. on last two medals. The named medals engraved. Swing mounted out of order on a grip strip, very fine.

Entitled to 39-45 Star; Pacific Star, WM and ASM (no entitlement to Defence Medal 1939-45).
43294 John Phillip Thornton, clerk, born 28Sep1918 at Warwick, Qld; Enl.17Jul1941 at Brisbane, Qld, in RAAF as Aircraftman 1; to LAC 01May1942; served in New Guinea 18Jul to 05Oct1942; guilty of being AWL 03Jan to 07Feb1944 and sentenced to 21 days detention; to Cpl 01Jun1945; Disch.15Feb1946 as Corporal ex 2 Recruit Depot.
In July 1977 John Thornton advised that his medals were missing on his return to his home after spending several months as a TPI in a repatriation home and requested replacements which were issued in about August 1977.
