FIRE BRIGADE, uniface trial strike, in copper (28mm), by A.T. (Anton Teutenberg, Auckland) (D&C.X7). Good very fine, very rare.

Private purchase from the Teutenberg family, June 2013, with ticket noting that the NSA has fireman figure.

Duncan and Cresswell note that the piece is the mirror image of an English Merryweather Co. stock medal. The Merryweather obverse die was apparently sold to brigades for pairing with appropriate reverses. It was used by the Brisbane Metropolitan Fire Brigade in the early half of the 20th Century and struck by Wallace Bishop Ltd., Brisbane. The Ipswich (Queensland) Brigade also used the die.
