UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO MEDICAL SCHOOL, Batchelor Memorial Medal, struck in silver (40mm), no maker, reverse inscribed 'P.J.Hurley/1962'. Obverse edge bruise at 4 o'clock, otherwise good very fine and rare.

Awarded for gynaecology and obstetrics.

Ferdinand Campion Batchelor (1850-1915). From 1886 until 1909 he was a lecturer in obstetrics and gynaecology at the University of Otago. A leader in New Zealand medicine, his life story makes fascinating reading.
