UNIVERSITY OF OTAGO, School of Mines, Ulrich Memorial Medal, struck in bronze (51mm), by A.Wyon (London), edge inscribed 'Montague Ongley 1911' (S.514). Virtually as struck, uncirculated, in a Wyon fitted case of issue.
Founded by subscribers to a fund for the purpose of providing a Memorial Prize in the School of Mines. It was awarded for the first time at the end of the session of 1902. In honour of Professor G.H.F.Ulrich, Professor of Mining and Director of the School of Mines from 1878 to 1900.
The prize is awarded annually by the University Council on the recommendation of the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Sciences), to the best student studying mineralogy in Geology classes.
With research including the biographies of Ulrich and Montague.
