EDWARD THE CONFESSOR, (1042-1066), silver penny, expanding cross type, Oxford Mint, moneyer Swetman, (1.54 g), obv. diademed bust left, trefoil tipped sceptre before, three vertical folds and four vertical pellets on either side of drapery, dividing legend +ED_ERD REX around begins at 12 o'clock, rev. voided short cross with expanding limbs and circle around pellet-in-circle in centre, legend +S_[ET]MAN ON OXENE (NE ligated) around, (S.1177, N.823, BMC v). Broken flan with some earthen deposits, good fine and scarce.
