JOHN, (1199-1216), silver penny, short cross type, class Va2, Canterbury Mint, moneyer Simon, (1.35 g), obv. crowned facing (neat bust) with sceptre left, hair composed of three curls either side enclosing pellets, five large pearls in band of crown, within inner circle, legend around begins, reversed S in legend, rev. short cross voided with quatrefoil in each angle, initial cross pommee, within pelleted inner circle, initial cross pommee, reversed S in legend, (S.1350B, N.969). Toned, good fine.
