QUEEN'S SOUTH AFRICA MEDAL 1899, (type 3 reverse), - four clasps - Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, South Africa 1901. 31679 Tpr: D. McPherson. Scottish Horse. Impressed. Very small edge bump, nicely toned, good very fine.

D. McPherson, Enl.15Feb1901 at Melbourne, Vic in 2nd Scottish Horse; Disch.16Oct1901 at Cape Town, South Africa, time expired and character Exemplary; address after discharge, Bungeeltap, Ballan, Vic; confirmed as a Scout with Scottish Horse.
D.McPherson was related to Dugald McPherson, a Scottish pioneer settler who arrived in Victoria in 1840. Bungeeltap Homestead at Mt Egerton, Ballan, was originally settled by Cowle and Stead in 1838 and acquired by Dugald McPherson in 1854. In about 1863 he erected a two-storey Gothic style stone house there. Although the property had the top storey removed in 1922 it is still on the Heritage Listing of the National Trust.
