DSO, MID (2) GROUP OF FIVE: Distinguished Service Order (GVR); 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19 with MID; France, Croix de Guerre 1914-1918 with bronze star. First and last medals unnamed as issued, Captain. A.B.D.Brown. 17/Bn. A.I.F. on second medal, T/Lieut-Col. A.B.D.Brown A.I.F. on third medal, T-Lt-Colonel A.B.D.Brown. A.I.F. on fourth medal. All named medals impressed. Display mounted, very fine - extremely fine.

DSO: Second Supplement to LG 3/6/1918, p6461; CAG No.173, 7/11/1918, p2110 to Major Arthur Balfour Douglas Brown for services rendered in connexion with military operations in France and Flanders.
MID: Second Supplement to LG 2/1/1917; CAG No.103, 29/6/1917 to Major Balfour Douglas Brown, mentioned in despatches by General Sir Douglas Haig GCB, Commander-in-Chief of the British Armies in France, for distinguished and gallant services and devotion to duty while serving under his command. (Note that Major Brown submitted a statutory declaration that stated that he was appointed under the name of Balfour Douglas Brown but his correct name was Arthur Balfour Douglas Brown.)
MID (Second occasion): Fourth Supplement to LG 28/5/1918, p6200; CAG No.165, 24/10/1918, p2055 to Major A.B.D.Brown for conspicuous services rendered. (Note that on 20/9/1920 A.B.D.Brown, now at the Federal Taxation Department, acknowledged the receipt of 2 oak leaves emblems.)

Arthur Balfour Douglas Brown (enlisted under the name of Balfour Douglas Brown but corrected by statutory declaration on 31Jan1918 to Arthur Balfour Douglas Brown), civil servant with Taxation Department with Sydney University education and a qualified accountant, age 31; applied for a commission 05May1915 with two years commissioned service in CMF; Emb.12May1915 as Capt & Adjutant; to Gallipoli 16Aug1915 and to 17Bn; to hospital with diarrhoea and insomnia 24Oct1915; seconded as APM (Asst Provost Marshall) 2/Aust Div; to join BEF 16Mar1916; to Major 02Jun1916; remain seconded to APM 2/Aust Div; trf to Anzac Provost Corps 24Sep1916 and to remain APM 2/Aust Div in the field; on leave to England 08Apr1917; to be APM AIF London 04Aug1917; trf to Army Provost Corps England from Anzac Provost Corps BEF 07Aug1917; various other appointments; to be DAPM (Deputy Asst Provost Marshall) 20Aug1918; to Hon Lt-Col and RTA 22Nov1919; Appt terminated 20Mar1920; trf to Reserve of Officers, 3rd Military District 20Jul1923; retired as Deputy Commissioner of the Taxation Branch of the Department of Treasury on 14Feb1944.
