PAIR: Colonial Auxiliary Forces Long Service Medal (EVIIR); Victoria Volunteer Long and Efficient Service Medal (type 2); together with Brassey Field Firing & Marching Competition Medal (type 1) 1896; - another (type 2) - 1897. No.14 Col. Sergt. J.O'Rourke, 6th Aust. Inf'ty. Regt. on first medal, No.2 Regtl. Q.M. Sergt. J.O'Rourke 63rd. Infantry on second medal, Lce Corpl J.O'Rourke. on edge of third medal and 2nd Batt. Inf. B'gde. on reverse, Corp J.O'Rourke on edge of last medal and 2nd Battn I.B. May 24th 1897 on reverse. First two medals impressed, last two engraved. Four medals, very fine and extremely rare.

John O'Rourke, labourer, born 1864 at Victoria; Enl.c1885 in Victorian Volunteer Force; in brassey Competition with 2Bn Infy Regt as L/Corporal in 1896 and Corporal 1897 that required a 10.5 mile march from Victoria Barracks to Williamstown followed by a shooting competition; noted as Colour Sergeant with 6 Infy Regt in 1905; Died 26July1920 as Warrant Officer and RQMS of 6 Infy Regt (East Melbourne Regt) and buried at Booroondara Cemetery, Kew, Vic on 28Jul1920.
