ARAB-BYZANTINE, imitating Justin II and Sophia type, (c.late 7th century A.D.), AE follis (6.86 g), Gerasa (= Jerash) Mint, issued year 12, obv. Justin II and Sophia enthroned, rev. capital M, cross above, A under M, traces of retrograde NIKO below, XII left, crude strike as usual for this mint, (S.-, cf.Grierson 612, Kovacs IX lot 376). Dark brown patina, fine and very rare.

Ex CNA XIX, lot 607. 19 February 1992. With tickets.
Kovacs states there are "perhaps only ten examples known from all dies".
