FOOT SPECIALS TRUNCHEON, 1913, a timber truncheon (approx 37.5cm long), wrapped at base of handle with a silver band and this inscribed 'from/The Foot Specials/1913 Strike'. Good very fine.

During the Great Strike on the Wellington docks in 1913 the government appointed Mounted Constables, mainly farmers, and as well Wellington businessmen, shop clerks, students and sportsmen were appointed as 'Foot Specials' (Foot Constables), in a determined effort to end the strike. The Foot Specials were billeted around Alexandra Barracks at Buckle Street, Mount Cook.
