OPENING OF LEWIS PASS ROAD, Oct.30, 1937, fob medal, uniface, struck in silver and enamel (25.5mm), by M&K (Mayer & Kean, Wellington), scroll and ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Hon P.C.Webb/Minister of Mines'. Extremely fine and rare.

Representatives of Canterbury, Westland, Nelson and Marlborough were present when the Lewis Pass Road was officially opened on 30 October 1937 by the Minister of Public Works (Hon. R.Semple). The ceremony marked a big step upward in South Island road communication. The Minister of Railways (Hon. D.G.Sullivan) and the Minister of Mines (Hon. P.C.Webb) were other Cabinet representatives at the opening.
