XIV COMMONWEALTH GAMES, Auckland, 1990, Official Supporters Club 'gold' medal (50mm) (cf M&P.1990/35 for obverse), struck uniface and reverse with frosted finish and impressed 'XIVth/Commonwealth Games/Official Supporters/Club/Auckland/New Zealand/Commemorative', in fitted Royal Australian Mint case and with a name plaque 'A.J./Musson'. Uncirculated and possibly unique.

Together with an unattributed newspaper cutting with photo of the recipient A.J.Musson, holding the above cased medal. The accompanying article reads as follows. 'Alf wins gold - and without lifting a finger. A Hastings man has won Hawke's Bay's first gold medal without even competing at the Games. Alf Musson (pictured) won the $2000 gold medallion ahead of 16,000 other New Zealanders, who joined the Commonwealth Games Supporters Club. The gold medal is a replica of the ones being awarded at the Games.^^Mr Musson was awarded his gold medal on Wednesday by Hawke's Bay Electric Power Board chairman Lloyd Duckworth. Mr Musson said he found out about his win in November when his brother saw his name listed in a special Commonwealth Games Supporters Club pamphlet. "I still can't believe it, I've never won anything like it before", he said. He still was not certain he had won until the power board phoned last week to ask him to attend one of its meetings.^^Mr Musson joined the supporters club in September by making a donation to the Games fund. He has been following the Games closely since they started, especially the cycling, swimming and bowls.'
