MAORI AGRICULTURAL MEDAL, founded by Charles, Lord Bledisloe, Tihema 1932, struck in oxidised bronze (63mm), by Mayer & Kean (Wellington), designed by F.C.Mitchell, Wellington, unawarded (S.486). Uncirculated and a striking example of Mayer's work from the mid 20th century, one illustrated. (2)

Awarded for competition between the Maori Farmers in the North East Waikato and Rotorua Districts for the best kept farm, with the object of encouraging a higher standard of agriculture among Maori farmers. With the first award goes a silver cup to be held for a year, and the cup is inscribed in Maori, 'A warrior's deeds are transient, but the achievements of the cultivator are enduring'.^^Ex Mayer & Toye (Wellington) Archive, private purchase July 2004.
