Agricultural & Horticultural Medals
Lot 609 Day 1 Agricultural & Horticultural Medals
Estimate $1,250
Bid at live.noble.com.au
TIMARU AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION, 1880, handcrafted in gold (?ct, 24.06g, 38mm), by Young (Young & Company, Auckland), scroll and ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Awarded/To/Norman Lane/For/Best Sample/Of Wheat Exhibited'. Hairlines on the plain centre piece, otherwise extremely fine.
In a report on the show, it was stated that 'of seven entries of white wheat, two belonged to one person, Mr Norman Lane, and he was awarded both first and second prizes, and also the gold medal. It seems unfair that one person should be allowed to enter two sacks of grain for prizes, unless he certifies that both are not from one and the same crop, because if this were allowed anyone who can take the first prize must be also sure of the second.'
Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
