SYDENHAM, hand engraved in voided gold (15ct, approx wt 17.89g, 33.5x34mm), no maker, ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'GSW', reverse inscribed 'Transvaal/War/Presented To/Trooper G.S.Williams/By Residents of Sydenham/Aug 8th 1901', attached to the ring top is a small hand engraved shield in gold (9ct, approx wt 2.5g, 21x24mm), no maker, bar back with loop, obverse inscribed 'AEWB' (tot wt of both items 20.39g). Very fine. (2)

Ex Mowbray Collectables Numismatic Auction 25 (lot 189).^^2656 Pte George Salter Williams, Station Hand of Sydenham, 5th Contingent, No 14 Company (Canterbury section), New Zealand Mounted Rifles, 4th Contingent (Rough Riders), embarked from New Zealand 31 March 1900. Pte Salter was discharged on 6 December 1901 and was awarded the Queen's South Africa Medal with clasps for Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal and Rhodesia. He died on 7 July 1943 and was buried two days later at Linwood Cemetery.
