(Wellington Boxing Club), fob medal, hand engraved in voided silver and gold (31x38mm), no maker, ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'PH', reverse inscribed 'W.B.C./Most/Improved/Heavy-Weight/1912'; (Ashburton Sports Club), fob medal, hand engraved in voided gold (9ct, 4.87g, 26x30mm), by De Beer (J.V. De Beer, Ashburton), ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'P.B.Hampton/2nd/Heavy Wght./28-8-19'. Very fine. (3)

58125 Tpr Richard (Dick) Edgar Leslie Hampton, 39th Reinforcements, Mounted Rifles Brigade, NZEF, embarked from New Zealand 9 August 1918. Richard came from a very large family. His ten siblings were sisters, Alice, Fanny Ann, Elizabeth, Eva Louisa, Mary Edith, Harriett, and Mabel as well as brothers, John, Robert Ernest and Percy Benjamin^^The newly formed Ashburton Sports Club held its initial boxing tournament at the local Theatre Royal. In the heavy-weight division P.Hampton won his first bout to progress to the finals but unfortunately he was beaten in that contest.^^With research.
