^The Clark Champion Belt for the brigade champion was donated by Captain J.M.Clark. Corporal Partington won the belt in 1872 and in the following year he lost, failing to win by only one point. At the time, Captain Clark stated that the man who won the belt one year and lost it the next should have a present of some description. Accordingly, Corporal W.Partington of No.3 Company of the Rifle Brigade was presented with a silver medal. Corporal Partington won the belt again in 1876 and received a bar to his medal.
