ROYAL HUMANE SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND, bronze medal, with buckle suspender for ribbon, reverse inscribed 'Awarded To/Thomas Gillings/For An Act/Of Bravery/26th May 1936' (O&D.126). Cased, extremely fine.

From New Zealand Herald, 16 December 1936, courtesy National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past.^^BRAVERY RECOGNISED^The presentation of the Royal Humane Society's bronze medal made by the Mayor of Huntly, Mr. W.C.E. George, to Mr. Thomas Gillings at a public picture entertainment in the Town Hall. The medal was awarded to Mr. Gillings for saving the life of Brian Porteous, aged 5 1/2 years, on May 26 last. Although Mr. Gillings was handicapped by having his left hand in splints, he jumped into the Waikato River and rescued the boy from drowning.
