From the Lyttelton News, Press, Vol LXXII, Issue 21697, 3 February 1936. Courtesy National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past.^ ^HARBOUR SWIMMING RACE^Seventeen swimmers started in the annual harbour race of the Lyttelton Men's Amateur Swimming Club on Saturday afternoon, and 14 completed the distance. The course was from the passenger launch jetty at Lyttelton to Corsair Bay. The tide was against the swimmers, but a choppy sea was behind them. The slowest part of the race was off the point at Corsair Bay, where the competitors had to contend with a strong tide. D. Moir, a 15-year-old schoolboy, was the winner, in the good time of 51 minutes. A. Ericksen, the scratch man, secured fastest time in 42 minutes 30 seconds, this being 1 1/2 minutes better than he did last year.
