VAD (VOLUNTARY AID DETACHMENT), Owaka, 1918, brooch bar handcrafted in gold (9ct, 5.59g, 44x22mm), no maker, pin-back and loop for fitting safety chain. Good very fine.

The Owaka VADs played a prominent part during the 1918 influenza epidemic in their area organising a hospital in Owaka School and Presbyterian Church and a sewing room in the IOOF Hall.
