MUSMH (MIDWIVES ? STATE MATERNITY HOSPITALS), partly hand engraved qualification badge in gold with enamel (9ct, 10.71g, 30x30mm), no maker, ring top suspension with pin-back suspension bar, reverse inscribed 'Nurse Zillah Wilkinson/Dec.1916.' Good very fine.
Ex Mowbray Collectables Numismatic Auction 25 (lot 198).^^Zillah Katherine Wilkinson was born in Dunedin in 1886. After passing her midwife's exam in December 1916 she was registered as a maternity nurse in 1917. For most of her nursing life she worked at the Batchelor Hospital in Dunedin. She never married and was involved with the St John's Ambulance and various Lodges. She died at Dunedin in 1963.^^With basic research.
