UNITED FIRE BRIGADES ASSOCIATION OF N Z, Long Service Medal for five years service, in silver (39mm), by A.T. (Anton Teutenberg, Auckland), reverse inscribed 'Foreman/Sydney Garbutt/By The/St Kilda/Borough Council/July 23.1907' (D&C.L3; O&D.115), ring top suspension missing; Masonic presentation jewel handcrafted in silver (57.5x54mm), no maker, ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'Presented To/P.G. Bro. S.Garbutt,/For/Valable Services/Rendered/7-7-19'. The first medal toned good very fine, the second medal with a few small creases and a central edge nick, otherwise fine. (2)

Ex Mowbray Collectables Numismatic Auction 25 (lot 191).^^Sidney Garbutt was born at Dunedin in 1881. He was a member of the Dunedin Highland Rifles from 1896 until his death in 1944. He was also on the military Reserve Roll but did not serve in WWI. In 1907 he was Foreman of the St Kilda Fire Brigade and later became Captain. He was a councillor with St Kilda Borough Council for many years. Sidney was a Past Grand Master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, Unity Lodge No.16. In the 1920s and 30s he is recorded on the electoral rolls as a lapidary and later his occupation was labourer. After he died in 1944 probate on his estate was granted in December 1944 and he was recorded as a storeman of Dunedin.^^With basic research.
