UNITED FIRE BRIGADES ASSOCIATION OF N Z, Long Service Medal for five years service, in silver (39mm), by A.T. (Anton Teutenberg, Auckland), with (3) 2 Years Service bars, reverse inscribed 'Branchman/William Day/By The/Akaroa/Borough Council/24-4-1912' (D&C.L3; O&D.115). A few small edge nicks, otherwise toned good very fine.
In 1912 Mr D.Handilands, hon.sec. Akaroa Fire Brigade wrote to the Akaroa Borough Council as follows:- 'I am instructed on behalf of the Akaroa Fire Brigade to apply to your Council for one five years' service medal for Fireman W.Day, also three two years' service bars.' At an ordinary meeting of the council Cr Munro moved that the medal and bars be granted, this was seconded by Cr Lewitt, and carried.
