AOF (ANCIENT ORDER OF FORESTERS), presentation medal hand engraved in silver (42mm), by J.Howden (name on edge), with suspender from a New Zealand Medal (Maori Wars), and affixed to this is a Sebastopol clasp from a Crimea Medal, obverse inscribed with AOF arms, reverse inscribed 'Presented/By the Brothers of/Court "City Of Auckland"/No.3978 A.O.F./To/S.Alexander. P.C.R/As A Token Of Respect/May 12th 1865.'. No ribbon, several edge nicks, otherwise very fine and extremely rare.

On the night of 12 May 1865 at the Prince of Wales' Theatre in Auckland, there was a Grand Foresters' Night for the benefit of the Ancient Order of Foresters commencing with a performance of Buckstone's celebrated drama of The Flowers of the Forest after which there was a presentation to S.Alexander P.C.R., founder of Forestry in Auckland and a suitable address by Brother J.H.Clifford.. The evening then concluded with the screaming farce of A Storm in a Tea Cup.^^The first Court of Foresters in the Province of Auckland, Court City of Auckland No.3978 was formally opened on 5 October 1863 by Mr S.Alexander P.C.R. in the old Waitekauri Hotel on Queen Street.^^With research.
