HCS (HAWERA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY), 1897, fob medal, hand engraved in silver and gold (37x43mm), no maker, ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'Best/Dressed/Highland Boy/Under 14 Yrs/Won By (unnamed)'. Some edge bumps, otherwise very fine.
The Hawera Caledonian Society annual gathering day was held on 1 January 1897. The medal for best dressed Highland Boy under 14 years was won from a field of four by W.Piper and the first prize of the above silver medal was donated by one of the Society's Vice-Presidents, Dr F.G.Westenra. W.Piper also won the event for bagpipe music (strathspeys and reels) for Boys under 14 years.
