THE COLLEGE LITERARY MEDAL, The Best And Most Original Literary effort, Presented By L.G.Donald Esq., struck in silver (39mm), by PND (P.N.Denton, Wellington), obverse inscribed 'W'gton East/Girls'/College', reverse inscribed 'T & M./Hamilton./1938'. Toned, good extremely fine.
At the break-up ceremony held on the afternoon of 16 December 1938 at the Wellington East Girls' College, Mr L.McKenzie presided over a large attendance of parents, pupils and friends of the school. Among the prizes distributed was a special prize for best and most original effort in English, medal presented by Mr L.G.Donald: Trixie Hamilton and Mary Hamilton, equal first (a medal was issued to each winner - see the W.J.Noble Collection Part A (lot 3563) for the other issue with a slight variation to the inscribed naming on obverse and reverse).
