MFBB (METROPOLITAN FIRE BRIGADES BOARD), (Victoria, Australia), member's pass handcrafted in voided gold (probably 15ct, 5.43g, 24mm), no maker, scroll and ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'J.Buttle/Member', reverse inscribed 'Members/Pass'. Very fine and rare.
James Buttle was manager of the Melbourne Office of New Zealand Insurance Company, one of the oldest insurance companies in the southern hemisphere with branch offices world-wide and with its head office in Auckland. He was duly elected as a representative member on the Metropolitan Fire Brigades Board of the Fire Insurance Companies carrying on business and insuring property within Victoria. The appointment declared by the Chief Secretary of Victoria, being the Minister administering the Fire Brigades Acts and its Regulations, dated 17 December 1896, as published on page 5164 of Victoria Government Gazette No.122, Friday December 18, 1896.^
