D.C.S. (Digby's Commercial School), fob medal, hand engraved in voided silver (23x28mm), hallmarked for Birmingham 1909 by maker W.J.D (William James Dingley, Birmingham), ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'HM', reverse inscribed '1910/D.C.S./Junior/Typewriting/1st/Hilda Munro'. Toned good very fine.

This first prize silver medal was awarded in the Junior Division for students who had been learning less than six months. The school, located in Christchurch, was established in 1892 by Miss A.M.Carr. She went into partnership with her star ex-pupil Henry Digby in 1898 and it became (Mister and Miss) Digby's Commercial School and then (Miss) Digby's Commercial School. Henry Digby was the school's principal and was known for his outstanding ability as a shorthand writer and typist.
