J.Ladyman won the medal for Best Junior Shot in the Cadet Company at Palmerston Technical School also winning a prize for electrical engineering. During the war years she was joint secretary of Palmerston North Business Girls' Club, and a company leader in the Palmerston North Women's War Service Auxiliary.
