HAMILTON, fob medal, handcrafted in gold (15ct, 8.18g, 29.5x34.5mm), by W.R.A. (?), ring top suspension, obverse inscribed 'WGJ', reverse inscribed '52 Mile/Road Race/Hamilton/Fastest Time/Won By/.H.M.S./W.Jones.time 2.45.30./3.6.10'; KiaOra, small shield, handcrafted in voided gold (9ct, 2.23g, 23.5x26.5mm), no maker, hook back and suspension ring at base, obverse inscribed 'W.G.J'. The hook on the last is bent sideways, otherwise very fine. (2)
There were 16 starters in this race. The course was to Ngaruawahia via Te Rapa, back through Hamilton to Cambridge, and return to Hamilton, the winning post being Bright's Waikato Hotel, Hamilton East. The winner on handicap was M.Hayes who had been allotted a 12 minute start, and second place went to R.Jones with a handicap of 12 minutes and third went to W.Jones with a handicap of 8 minutes even though he covered the course in the fastest time.
