N.O.B.A. (North Otago Boxing Association), fob medal, hand engraved in gold (9ct, 6.34g, 24x35mm), by W&Co (Wylie & Co, Oamaru), ring top suspension, reverse inscribed 'N.O.B.A./1928/Middle Weight/P.O'Connell'. Hairlines, otherwise very fine.
The North Otago Boxing Association championship tournament was held in the Oamaru Drill Hill in July 1928. The first bouts consisted of three rounds of two minutes duration and the finals were three rounds of three minutes. In the first bout of the Middle Weight competition, P.O'Connell (Oamaru) won by a knock out. Then in the final, he won on points in a splendid fight. The last round was very willing with both boxers receiving and giving a lot of punishment. The decision in favour of O'Connell was well received.
