Won at the Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club meet Lancaster Park (Christchurch) on 8 November 1889.^^The following courtesy of National Library of New Zealand - Papers Past from the 'Press', 11 November 1889:^^"The Canterbury Amateur Athletic Club were favored with beautiful weather for the second day of their spring meeting, at Lancaster Park on Saturday last. There was a large attendance. His Excellency the Governor and Mr Walrond visited the Park, but were unable to stay any length of time, and only saw the 120 yards Maiden run. The Burnham Band was on the ground, and played a number of selections in a very creditable manner. The number of people on the ground was the largest the Club have yet been favored with, and showed that the change in the date of the meeting was a step in the right direction. The racing, on the whole, was as good as one could wish to see, and opinions are unanimous that the meeting was one of the most successful the Club has held. The officials again worked well, and punctuality was observed in carrying out the events at the advertised time. An afternoon cup of tea was again dispensed.........The quarter-mile handicap (ladies' bracelet) proved a soft thing for J.S.Hawkes, one of the limit men....."
