(SOUTHLAND TROTTING CLUB), prize medal in gold (15ct, 8.94g, 25mm), by D.B (probably D.Benjamin & Co, Dunedin), scroll suspension, obverse inscribed 'Presented/By/J.Bruce Thomson,/To/First Winner of/Wai-Rongoa Handicap.', reverse inscribed 'Won By/Thos McCurdy,/on/"Hindoo"/9th March 1910.' Good very fine.

^Southland Trotting Club held its inaugural meeting at Invercargill on 9 March 1910. The Wai-Rongoa Cup was a class handicap race of two miles for a first prize of 70 sovereigns. It was won by Mr T.McCurdy's black gelding, Hindoo, by Lincoln Yet, on a 26 second handicap and with T.McCurdy also the driver. Hindoo won by half-a-length in a time of 5min 10sec.
